“Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small.”
— Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

I started exercising again last year not because I felt motivated — I didn’t — but because I noticed I kept waiting to feel motivated and it wasn’t coming. So I just went, unready and reluctant, and did twenty minutes because twenty minutes felt survivable. I came home and felt marginally better. I went again three days later for the same reason.
The motivation showed up around week three, quietly, without announcing itself. It came after the doing, not before. I’d had this backwards for years — waiting to feel ready to begin, not understanding that beginning is what makes you feel ready. Readiness is a result, not a requirement. You don’t wait for it — you do the thing and it follows.
