I sat at a bus stop but wasn’t waiting for a bus. I just didn’t know where else to go. The city moved around me like it had somewhere to be.
An older woman sat down without asking. Canvas bag on her lap. “You look like someone who’s been thinking too hard,” she said.

I laughed. “Is it that obvious?”
“My daughter gets the same face.” She handed me half a granola bar. “You don’t have to know where you’re going. You just have to not stay frozen.”
Her bus came. She left. I sat a little longer. Then I stood up, picked a direction, and walked. I still didn’t know where I was headed. But my feet were moving. That felt like enough.
